Start-Up Project Opportunities

Do you want to work with gutsy, determined and dedicated people to open a start-up school which hopes to set new standards for education in the Bay Area? Do you have brains and talent, skills and spirit?

Then, South Bay Prep wants you!

Take a look at the projects below and see what suits you and your family. If the list below doesn't match your situation, then let’s create something. This is a living list and will be changed periodically.

Outreach and Enrollment Team

  • Help organize and deliver enrollment meetings to the public
  • Help facilitate small group discussion at enrollment nights
  • Organize and host South Bay talks for a few families in your home
  • Assist with a sample project demonstration for interested SBP students
  • Staff tables at fairs and functions in the Valley to attract families to SBP
  • Post fliers in shops and organizations in the Campbell Union High School District
  • Pass out fliers on the streets, at farmer's markets, fairs, and schools
  • Assist registrar with processing applications

Board Support Team

  • Serve on board development team
  • Help scout and recruit advisors
  • Coordinate parent volunteers, do intake and placement
  • Develop volunteer program materials
  • Research volunteer management software (databases for volunteers, donors and mentors)
  • Research fingerprinting and background check process and present to Board

  • Seek discount printing options
  • Provide storage for furniture donations
  • Find or provide free meeting space for volunteer teams to meet volunteer@southbayprep.org

Networking Team

  • Attend SC County Board of Ed meetings to keep abreast of news and report back to SBP Board
  • Represent SBP at educational and philanthropic functions

Marketing Team

  • Assist in development of marketing materials for SBP information packet
  • Develop marketing materials to give to potential donors for use in fundraising
  • Desktop publishing
  • Writing, editing, proofreading for various purposes
  • Develop signs or displays for public events and teacher recruitment
  • Create, distribute and track publicity materials (psa’s, calendar listings, etc.)

Community Building and School Culture Team

  • Develop parent education program on community culture: communications, aiding in the classroom, democracy and restorative justice
  • Research and develop before-school gathering/camping trip
  • Facilitate dialogue online between parents
  • Organize  South Bay family community activities
  • Serve as event ambassadors to handle event issues and help families become comfortable
  • Facilitate student social and project opportunities
  • Research hot lunch program opportunities and present to Board
  • Organize Opening of School celebration – yeah!

Programming Team

  • Develop community mentor component of the learning model
  • Establish partnerships with community service agencies for community service projects
  • Investigate databases for tracking community members (and mentors, volunteers)
  • Research and develop after-school care with and for students
  • Research physical education programming and equipment needs
  • Research science lab needs
  • Assist in development of training program for parents as project coaches
  • Assist founding teachers to develop curriculum-related materials
  • Research middle school/community college opportunities for students and mentors and build partnerships with college departments
  • Organize Back to School Coffee/Tea and/or Back to School Night
