January Update
South Bay Preparatory is a public charter school serving grades 6-12 with a target opening date of September 2007. Our mission is to prepare, support and inspire students for success at a four-year university and in life.
We Need Your Help!
One of the important tasks while forming a charter school is to make sure that the community has had significant opportunity to find out about the proposed charter school.
You can help us get the word out!
Does your son or daughter attend one of these schools?
- Castro Middle School
- Rogers Middle School
- Campbell Middle
- Monroe Middle
- Rolling Hills Middle
- Dartmouth Middle School
- Union Middle School
- Ida Price Middle School
- Any elementary school that feeds into one of the above middle schools
Our goal is to have 3 representatives from every local school to help spread the news. We have ready made flyers for you to distribute. Please contact us at lambertkel@yahoo.com if you want to help out but you don’t have too much time! This is an EASY job.
Join us at our next Public Information Meetings
Tuesday, February 7th
In an ongoing effort to keep the community informed about SBP, we are holding monthly meetings at the Campbell Library (77 Harrison Ave. - Downstairs meeting room).
These meetings are an occasion for you to talk with the South Bay Preparatory board and have many of your questions answered.
Our goal is to bring the SBP mission to life for you, update you on our progress, talk about what the committees have been working on, and of course, encourage you to get involved.
SOUTH BAY PREPARATORY BIG NEWS…
We are close to completing the first draft of our charter petition!
Once the petition is written it must be signed by a number of parents or guardians who are meaningfully interested in having their child, or ward, attend the charter school that is equivalent to at least ½ of the number of pupils that the charter school estimates it will enroll in the school for its first year of operation.
As we get closer to completing our petition, we are looking for families who would be interested in hosting an open house where the SBP board can go over the charter in detail with a small group of prospective petition signers. Please contact lamberkel@yahoo.com if this sounds like a way that you can help South Bay Preparatory.
Committee Updates:
Development / Finance Meeting – Monday, February 13th
This committee has been meeting every other Monday in the coffee shop at the Borders Book Store in Santana Row. They have created a first draft development plan and started looking at the elements of the CDE Charter Development grant. They are also working on filing SBP’s tax exempt paperwork. For more information contact Traci Tokhi at traci@lovingparenting.org.
The Education Committee has been working hard to make our mission real!
The Education Committee has been exploring different methods of assessing students as well as what criteria SBP will use to measure success for the students and the school. They are starting to develop plans for meeting the needs of the academically low achieving students, the high achieving students, the English language learners and the special needs students. The Education Committee meets twice a month on Wednesday evenings at Los Gatos High School - 20 High School Court from 7:00-9:00. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8th.
